jewelry. It had to cost a fortune. Probably everything that Max gave him plus everything he earned from personal training.
“Hey, is everything okay?” Paige asked , tentatively stepping next to me.
I just shook my head and handed her the piece of paper, staring at the ring .
Paige took the piece of paper. “He’s really gone?”
    “Yeah... I think so.”
“Whoa. And that’s one helluva ring.”
“It’s what he used the money to buy,” I whispered.
“He has some damn good taste,” Paige said.
“Yeah, he does.” I took it out of the box and put it on my ring finger, watching it sparkle in the light. “Now if he just wanted to stay with me.”
“Any guy that gives you a ring like that wants to be with you.”
I shook my head, turning toward her. “But he left and signed the divorce papers. What am I supposed to do?”
Paige widened her eyes like the answer was simple. “You go after him. That’s what you do.”
“Pffffft. Like I have the money to do that. I’m freaking working on commission.”
She rolled her eyes. “Seriously? All you have to do is ask.”
    “Ask what?”
She pulled her phone out and clicked a few buttons. “I can get you on a flight leaving in three hours out of O’Hare, so you’d better get your ass packed and ready.”
    “Are you serious right now?”
Paige clicked a few more buttons. “I’m entering Daddy’s credit card information now; don’t make me change my mind. Now get your shit packed.”
“Okay.” I swallowed hard and then turned, opening my closet door and grabbing my bag, throwing in whatever I could find for clothes. I didn’t know how long it would take and if I was making a huge mistake , or if he’d even want to take me back after I ran out on him like I did, but I had to take a chance. A phone call or a text wasn’t going to do it. I had to make the big gesture and show him that I was completely wild for him and that he was more than just a marriage by mistake.
“You about ready? I’m going to go way over my lunch break and I just emailed your ticket info to your phone,” Paige asked as I walked out of the bathroom , stuffing the last of my toiletries in my bag.
“Yeah, I am.” I grabbed my laptop bag and threw it over my shoulder.
    “Okay.” She nodded.
“Am I absolutely crazy for doing this?”
Paige shook her head. “If you’re crazy then I’m even crazier for encouraging you.”
“I don’t even know where he went or how to find him or where to go.”
Paige put her hand on my shoulder. “You do what you have to do. And if it’s supposed to happen then it’s gonna happen. And if you need me to hop on that plane to come get you and pick you up off the ground wherever you are, I’ll be there because that’s what friends are for.”
    I smiled. “Thanks, Paige.”
“No problem, Valerie.” She picked up my bag and opened the front door. “Now let’s get you to the airport and find your husband.”
